Where young creatives learn to think like designers
The ProtoToto ways
ProtoToto Design Lab is an arts space that engages children as thinking agents through inquiry, language, sketching, and prototyping.
We make art and we design objects, spaces, and systems with a curious and open mind.
ProtoToto is a fun, safe, and creative hub for discovery, friendship, and connection.
We are thinkers, artists, makers, inventors, and designers getting to play and build a better world.
Come prototype with us!
At ProtoToto, kids can take after-school classes, weekend workshops, and school holiday sessions grounded in design fundamentals, architecture, graphic design, interior design, and industrial design.
Whether the kids are creating architectural models, functional objects, or artist books, we always start by thinking conceptually, sketching, and testing our ideas through prototyping and discussion.
Along the way, our young creatives improve their analytical skills and problem-solving strategies, and build intellectual confidence.
Now open!
Our studio is now fully operational, in full summer camp swing at 139 Nevins Street in charming Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. We have loads of art supplies, tools, and design materials. Designed by architect Patricia Semmler, the studio has a design/create area and a back room for eating, playing and reading.
ProtoToto was founded by Suzanne LaGasa, a book designer and the former creative director of Dwell magazine. Suzanne developed our curriculum and leads of our instruction along with co-teachers teachers who are passionate about education, design thinking, and having fun along the way.
